Test your skills! in Hand Tools

This is one of those articles where you need to know what you are doing to some extent to get good results. I use it to sharpen my kitchen/chef's knives. I also have a coarser stone (600 grit) from Daiso when the knife is very dull to start and then increase the grit count. Doesn't require much skill, but I'd practice on inexpensive knives first. I think the product itself is pretty good and gets the job done. I soak the stone for about 10 minutes before use and rinse frequently during use. I like that it says which side is which grit, you don't have to remember it. The holder works fine but the rubber base still slides on the countertop so I put a damp paper towel underneath and that helps it stay in place better. I like the rubber protection that fits perfectly in the bracket around the stone. I've seen several reports of the log holder getting moldy and when I first used it I found it to be very easy to rinse and clean and then let dry, but I only used and saw it today that it is actually slightly moldy from traces of water that must have been left behind when I kept it in the drawer. It wasn't a big deal as I just cleaned it before reusing it and made sure it was dry again before putting it away for storage. even blade/blade sharpening.
