Review on MidWest High Walk Thru Steel Gate by Jamie Rios

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good performance and price but structural weaknesses

Highest available gate, top and bottom locked tightly, most dogs cannot force it open. Opens both ways, which is unusual. The movement to open it is to pull a small latch (easy) and lift the gate (against a fairly strong spring). I don't have much trouble opening it, but my wife and kids do, although it's easier to get used to. Despite the positive qualities, it is about the lowest price for metal gates. But mine broke after 6 months. The strong spring that you use to lift the gate to open is located in the top hinge and is housed in a plastic case. Since the movement to open the gate is due to the torque of this hinge, the base of the shaft broke off. There is no way to fix it. If the hinge is broken, you can still close the gate, but if you lift it to open it, you'll have the entire gate in your hands. The company sent me a new one with no problem, I just had to show them the receipt. The replacement lasted two years before collapsing in the same way. I'm ordering another one though because it's the best gate I can work with - reversible, quite tall and closes securely so my dog doesn't try to open it.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
