Review on πŸ’ͺ High-performance Adamanta 32GB (2x16GB) Memory Upgrade for 2017 Apple iMac 27" Retina 5K Display - DDR4 2400MHz PC4-19200 SODIMM 2Rx8 CL17 1.2v Dual Rank RAM DRAM by Charles Adelaja

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A big increase in performance, but the old modules have been removed.

EDIT: Just checked the differences between my original 8GB, the new 32GB and the combined 40GB. Running an iMac with just the new 32GB Adamanta RAM yielded the best results. (Results photo provided) I tested on Geekbench and Novabench and the results were the same. 7-8% overall performance improvement over 40GB and even better than the original 8GB. Where I noticed the biggest difference was in the program's responsiveness, CPU performance, and Fusion Drive's read and write speeds. Huge increase in memory performance by fully utilizing dual-channel memory as opposed to asymmetric dual-channel (which technically appears to be single-channel) when mixing modules. The best scenario would be to use the full 64GB of that storage. However, I'm very happy with 32GB and don't break a sweat at all missing out on the extra 8GB. I'll just sell them. Original Post: I had the same issue as others where the iMac would not boot after installing new RAM in empty slots. I first installed this memory kit into two empty slots on a new 2017 iMac i5 3.8GHz. iMac won't turn on. I tried replacing the new modules with the originals and plugging the original memories into the empty slots. He didn't intervene. Then I read someone's post about how to put new modules in the TOP TWO slots (slots 1 and 2) and old ones in the bottom two slots (slots 3 and 4). IT WORKS and it registers as 40GB RAM. I haven't checked whether this affects performance. I read on Apple's website that you can have mixed RAM and it will keep its dual channel characteristics. Also, you want the largest RAM modules in the first bank (slots 1 and 2, the top two slots). In addition, your iMac performs a memory initialization when you turn it on for the first time after upgrading memory or swapping DIMMs. This process can take 30 seconds or more, and your iMac's display will remain blank until it's complete. Make sure you allow memory initialization. full.” I called Adamanta to confirm the correct placement of these memory modules and they confirmed the placement of the new RAM in the top two slots.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
