This dummy lantern works great trust me. I've had it for about two weeks now and it's doing its job very well. I have to park my car on a dark street at night and this gives me the peace of mind I need. The device can be charged via mini USB plug (included but no wall adapter) or direct sunlight, there is an on/off switch for convenience. I forgot to turn off the switch several times and the LED never went out. The lamp is bright enough to be seen through my tinted windows, it's definitely not dim or dim, but could be a bit brighter IMHO. Here's what's missing. The design is terrible. It looks exactly as it is: a dummy security LED. I agree because the inside of my Renegade is all black with tinted windows so I can't tell myself that the light is coming from some kind of dummy security LED. Don't accidentally place this on the dashboard of a '99 Honda CR-V though, as you won't fool anyone and your car will be stolen and the dummy LED will remain where you parked. Scottish sucks. SUUUUUUU. I found the device on the floor of my car the morning after installation. Instead of doing something stupid like putting it on the edge of my windshield on top of the dash so everyone can see what an idiot I am, I installed it to the left of the steering wheel next to a few buttons and controls. It mixes up at night, and since it's so damn dark in my car, I'm sure a would-be thief will just walk away when they see the flashing blue light. However, mounting the LED this way meant that the device had to be mounted vertically. Hooray, I found it on the mat the next morning. At least he was still blinking. It's not that any part of my dash was smooth (it's textured) or that it had any oily or waxy automotive products on its surface. I thoroughly cleaned the surface with 70% alcohol (I did this about 3 times, letting the surface dry in between) before installing the LED, but the glue still didn't work. I decided to go to Laws where I bought a red roll of Scotch Mount Extreme Indoor/Outdoor double sided tape. I figured that would be the best option for temperature changes in the car. It was a $10 roll of duct tape, but I agreed because it's a lot cheaper than installing an actual security system. that's why you're here, right? So I had to peel the original tape off the LED first because if I left it on and applied a second layer of double sided tape the LED would be about a half inch or more above the dashboard surface. Remember, I'm trying to fool a would-be thief, not make him laugh. BTW, did I mention how much duct tape sucked? After it was removed it left a horrible residue that would NOT come off with alcohol. I used a pair of old jeans, ran an LED through the legs and it really worked like a charm. After half an hour of muscle power, the dummy LED was clean. Scotch Extreme now keeps it in the car. What else? On arrival there were a few scuffs on the plastic housing of the LED. Yes I think I would buy again.
