Review on Oak Creek Advanced Hammock Rain Fly: The Ultimate 110 Inch Multipurpose Rainfly for Hammocks by Jason Childs

Revainrating 3 out of 5

One of my absolute favorite products! - Sad update.

This is an excellent rain fly. I've been resting in a hammock for over seven years and have used several different raincoats, but this one packs a punch. Since I received these, I've spent the night in the rain twice, and even the rain with the wind hasn't reached me. It also offers much more privacy when switching than other solutions. I had some concerns that the hanging loops or clasps would break, but looks like they will be fine. I recommend this as an inexpensive, highly effective solution for privacy and protection when camping in a hammock. OK. So I liked this product but after 16 months I have to downgrade my rating. First, the clasps began to rust, making them difficult to open and close. Luckily I didn't have any tears near the latches, but a couple of times it was close to breaking. I used a great method to secure this thing. I guided the rope from tree to tree with two carabiners that held loops on the rope. This took almost all the pressure off the hinges. But last weekend we had 35 mph wind and one of the hinges broke. After about 50 nights of use I will either try to sew the loop back on (and add a few stitches to the remaining loop) or throw it away. Too bad because of all the methods I've used to cover my hammock, this was the best.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
