Review on Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tire Performance by Louis Mechtak

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A decent glass studded commuter tire.

Original review 8 Jun 2020 New and unused: rock solid and rolls well. Get online and use your wits to battle him on your rim! Update one year later: The tire of the same model that I bought back in October 2019 has withstood quite well the many pieces of broken glass (beer bottles etc., no safety glass!) that I encounter on my daily commute to work. I finally had my first puncture in this tire last week. A huge random spike of broken glass made its way to my inner tube. But only a slow stab! The tire appears to have suffered less damage overall than Specialized's high-performance "Black Belt” tire. However, it has perfectly coarse slashes! At some of these large holes you can see the entire blue armor belt. As the rear tire, the Schwalbe took more of a load and carried most of my weight in collisions. with sharp as well as most brakes/skids. I would say this tire is worth the money. It rolls very well and handles some of the rough urban surfaces quite well. It would be ideal if the tire hardness reading (DUROMETER this word is corrected by Revain with an odometer spell) was a little higher (hint, hint, swallow). I would say the rubber is a bit softer than some of the shinier puncture proof tires. The tire has enough grip in the rain after almost a whole year of 5 days a week and 26 km a day in all conditions. It's nice to bump into invisible glass etc in the dark and hear it bounce under the bike. No worries about the apartment!

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly torn
