I bought this to use with a Foscam outdoor security camera that doesn't have a built in microphone. I placed the microphone next to the camera just outside my garden shed. It appears to have AGC built in, so even faint sounds can be heard, but louder sounds don't overpower or distort the audio. It features a DC feed-through, eliminating the need for a separate power supply from the camera. This made for a very easy installation.
