Review on TRAM 1607 HC 46 Inch Marine Antenna by William Stewart

The TRAM 1607-HC 46" VHF marine antenna is well built and finished. The included RG-58 cable with a quality miniature connector is installed Unfortunately, even the miniature connector is too large to run a waterproof cable to my boat, necessitating cutting the connector and installing a regular PL-259 stainless steel TPI mount. I wrapped the threads on the mount with a few turns of Teflon tape (to eliminate looseness) and tightened the antenna until it was snug, but no more, for fear of removing any loose threads. I assume this is satisfactory, but wanted to let others know who may be using a different base than the one supplied.
