The plastic base and mounting configuration is pretty flimsy

The antenna actually looks pretty decent for the money, but the socket is pretty flimsy. When I first drive the boat into port, the antenna does not stay upright. The impact on the road (not much on the freeway) was enough to cause her to collapse and lie down (too much of it would likely cause her to break). I'm a bit worried about that strength so I redid the joint and we'll see if it holds up on the water on Saturday. The installation instructions are pretty bad and I'm not at a low level…

Literally didn't survive a day unscathed

Installation wasn't easy but not bad, just be ready to fight. The instructions were enough to aid in assembly. the plastic gear (to maintain the raised/lowered position) will NOT run indefinitely; but should be enough for a few seasons on the water. The rubber cap at the end of the antenna was my yardstick for reducing the rating rating. After a day on the water the antenna looked fine, but then I noticed that the protective rubber cap (which prevents water from getting onto the metal core of…

Okay, but the threads on the standard bracket are 1 " x 14 TPI

The TRAM 1607-HC 46" VHF marine antenna is well built and finished. The included RG-58 cable with a quality miniature connector is installed Unfortunately, even the miniature connector is too large to run a waterproof cable to my boat, necessitating cutting the connector and installing a regular PL-259 stainless steel TPI mount. I wrapped the threads on the mount with a few turns of Teflon tape (to eliminate looseness) and tightened the antenna until it was snug, but no more, for fear of…
