From time to time I've looked to flash drives or small external hard drives to back up some stuff that doesn't require anything heavier. Unfortunately, most of what I found was either buggy (the external hard drive actually messed everything up on it and restarted my computer) or contained additional programs that interfered with its use. My last flash drive before that prided itself on being secure and encrypting its contents, but it was slow and not very user-friendly. These are traditional flash drives with a large amount of available storage. Just plug them in and do what you need to do. That's how everything I've tried should be. No claims from me.
