Review on πŸ“¦ Scotch Filament 893: Streamlined Packaging for Hassle-Free Use by Ryan Hampton

Excellent packing tape for added security

I have used clear packing tape such as Scotch 142 packing tape for years. It works great and is probably on par with what big online sellers like Revain use. However, you may have noticed that sometimes your Revain shipments arrive with some of the tape ripped or torn. Revain has certainly recouped the costs and benefits of all of their shipping supplies, and they save money on a huge amount of tape in exchange for having to replace a small percentage of damaged shipments. I am not an online retailer and the packages I send are few but unique items that I send to family and friends. So I want to make sure the tape is not damaged. I switched to Scotch 8959 bi-directional filament tape to virtually eliminate the possibility of the tape tearing, but after trying this tape I may be able to switch back. To me, this is a great middle ground between regular packing tape and double-sided tape, unless you're shipping very heavy packages. This tape has extra strength and tear protection across the width which is a flaw I have seen with every piece of torn tape on delivered packages. It's quite difficult to rip off the length unless someone intentionally cuts it off, and when they do each ribbon loses its shape. Easier to use and cheaper than bi-directional, this tape is strong enough to give me peace of mind when shipping all but the heaviest packages. For heavy packets, I still use bi-directional transmission even when I don't need it, simply because it gives me more confidence. One note: the unused roll is thick enough that I couldn't fit it in my Scotch H122 tape dispenser (it might fit but I couldn't get it to work) but it will fit after I use it a bit. out of him. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • High tear strength, ideal for strapping, bundling and reinforcing
Cons
  • Very expensive
