Amazing kitchen tool for quickly slicing ("spiraling") vegetables. As others have pointed out, the only downside to this model (as opposed to the vertically oriented version of this slicer) is that the small central core, about the diameter of the pencil, is drilled in the slicing process. Remember that the vegetables or fruit to be cut with this machine must be firm - this machine cannot cut tomatoes or soft-hearted foods. This machine is best for grinding onions, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, radishes, raw potatoes, apples, etc. The food processor cannot reproduce the thin, continuous, "spiral" slices that this small appliance can. because applying downward pressure on the food while spinning it can be a little wobbly without the "guide" of the center bar. I never thought of spending $60 on a food slicer but it's worth it.
