These speakers were installed under a roof to protect them from the elements. Although they are waterproof, I think it's a good idea to protect them from the elements so they last a long time. One of the speakers does not need to be connected to a power source, the second is powered by connecting to the main speaker with the included speaker cable. The cable that came with it is a bit short, so I had to extend the cable with connectors and an extra speaker wire. I also daisy chained two extra Insigia speakers that I already had to fill with music in the backyard - 4 speakers total connected. Set the main speaker volume to the maximum and you can control the volume from your phone. Easy Bluetooth setup, allows you to listen to personal music, Pandora, Spotify, etc. The sound quality is excellent; crisp, clear sound and enough bass for speakers in this price range. These speakers are listed online as 800w, the box I received actually says they are 1000w. Definitely recommend for setting up backyard music. Read the other reviews before purchasing. I wonder if some of the negative reviews were reviews of lower powered speakers because they sound great and have lots of volume and bass.
