As advertised this is only for a small space as it does little to remove moisture from the air. It is quiet for a dehumidifier as only the fan motor makes noise. There is no compressor used in larger installations. It uses a thermoelectric device to cool the air. Equivalency is like placing a glass of ice water on the counter and there will be moisture from the air condensing on the glass. Very little moisture is extracted from the air, but it works. It comes with a remote control. The remote controls the light and fan speed. There is only one on/off button on the unit itself, so a remote control MUST be used to control the unit. Try not to lose it. So far I have used this device in the bathroom and have not filled the container. The maximum amount of water removed is about 4 ounces in about 3 weeks. A full-size dehumidifier is typically capable of removing more than 1 gallon in 24 hours, depending on the humidity level in the home. For the bathroom I was expecting a lot more moisture removal. I cannot recommend this product.
