I have used this safe and effective household cleaner for many years. Long before our homes and environments were endlessly bombarded with soaps and detergents loaded with toxic chemicals (and that unhealthy chemical smell that manufacturers add in hopes of masking the smell of their toxic chemicals), this product existed. Its simple, effective formula was everywhere. since the 1880's Below I have listed its safe, natural ingredients with an explanation for each. This product perfectly cleans glass, tile, porcelain, vinyl, stainless steel and many other household surfaces. For surfaces that can streak, like glass and stainless steel, I spray plain white vinegar and wipe the surface with a clean cotton cloth or paper towel. Ingredients: Limestone (Calcium Carbonate), Feldspar, Alkyl Polyglucoside (Biodegradable Detergent), Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate), Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate). Limestone, also known as calcium carbonate, is a scratch-resistant abrasive as it only has a hardness of about 3 on the Mohs hardness scale. The limestone used in this product is manufactured in the US state of Illinois. Feldspar: This abrasive has been used at Bon Ami since its inception in 1886. Feldspar has a hardness of 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. It's generally gentler than the silica that other cleaning powders use. Silica ranges from 6 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale. Another problem with silica is that it's classified as carcinogenic and an irritant to the eyes, skin, and lungs. The feldspar in this product is mined in North Carolina and North Dakota, USA. Alkyl Polyglucoside (APG): A biodegradable degreasing cleaner derived from fatty alcohols and glucose found in corn and coconut. Sodium carbonate, also known as soda ash, also known as washing soda: This is the sodium salt of carbonic acid and is most commonly used as a water softener and in public swimming pools to neutralize the corrosive effects of chlorine and increase pH. It can also be used in household cleaners. It is obtained from the ash of many different plants or synthetically derived from sodium chloride and limestone. Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a safe, ingestible product that absorbs odors and removes stains from surfaces. It is used in home baking to lift cakes, cookies and biscuits.
