The demanding Shih Tzu approves.

For many years we have been trying to find foods that our girl really likes and that are healthy for her. Recently, after an FDA warning about dog food and heart problems in dogs, we took another look. Our family has never been interested in grain-free foods, but we tried a few grain-free products just because they were recommended to us and we found the ingredient list lived up to the bill. Now we know that just reading a company's marketing or just reading the ingredients list isn't enough. After careful research and careful study of the AAFCO information, we decided to try this Royal Canin wet food for our Shih Tzu. First of all, our dog needs (and prefers) to have dog food in the form of a pie. We keep a small amount of dry food available for them to graze on, but their main food source is wet food. Because she has typical Shih Tzu facial hair, gravy or sauce-based foods can be difficult to clean. She can eat this food clean and doesn't need to wash her face afterwards. More importantly, she absolutely LOVES this food. She can't wait for us to cut it into small pieces before she swallows it. Next the ingredients. At first we were concerned that this food contained cornmeal as a thickening agent, but wanted to delve into it rather than eating foods that later cause heart problems. While the FDA report is preliminary, there is still much research to be done. like many other dog owners, we just don't want to take the risk. Finally the price. No, this meal isn't the cheapest OR the most expensive you'll find, but we're willing to shell out a hefty sum to ensure our girl eats the healthiest food she can get her hands on. We will continue to review other feeds for them but for now this Royal Canin breed specialty feed is a home test for us and we cannot recommend it highly enough. If your Shih Tzu is picky like us, give this food a try.
