Tape US 55160 Ruler with Extension

I read many reviews before deciding on this make and model and as with most things there is no perfect product. Seasoned folks seemed to have trouble with every brand, but I still need one of these things for accurate internal measurements, so I went with this one. On the plus side, it feels well made and precise, and each folding section snaps in very well. On the other hand, for some reason the manufacturer decided to design the slide extension so that the friction on the first inch was practically zero. It's not an anomaly with one or two elements (which I was hoping for reading other reviews), it was a design decision and they are. After passing that first inch, the extension holds its position very well, but actually the extension is loosened on the first inch. So if a measurement is needed that is less than an inch longer than the number of fixed sections, and you need to leave the extension in place when you remove the ruler for some reason, a workaround is needed to put the extension there leave them where you set them. I took the small piece of tape approach, where you just put a small piece of tape across the rail and fixed section for about three inches. It's annoying to do this, but it works fine.

Pros
  • Durable and maintenance free
Cons
  • Crumpled
