Like all my other Orico cases, this one does what it's supposed to do electronically. The sliding retaining tabs are short and if the lid is moved a short distance it just separates completely and falls off; There is no "latch" type bracket to hold the lid. Sometimes I pick it up and the angle of the lift pulls the lid off. It also breaks down when kept in a bag or backpack. Since I can't tell where the top is when I take it out of my laptop bag or bag, I often rip it off myself when I'm not going to. Other cases have long rails that the lid slides on, so even opening it slightly won't fall off until pushed apart a few inches. not this one. The design is visually stunning and really fun to look at, but it scratches easily (like fingernails) and the scratches remain visible. It feels good in the hand. The "blow foam pad" shown in the photos and mentioned in the description turned out to be a cheap piece of crumpled open cell foam floating in the box. It has peelable adhesive so I can attach it if I want.
