As a content creator, I love being able to read from a script when I'm shooting video. In this sense, the teleprompter becomes an indispensable piece of equipment for me. A few years ago I tried to build a teleprompter with my own hands. I do not recommend going this route. I wanted to use my iPad as a computer with a teleprompter, and at the time the capabilities of such a teleprompter were limited. I found a simple one that worked but was cumbersome to use so it went into storage for several years. That teleprompter is pretty cool. It folds up for easy storage and comes with its own storage case. That's already a big bonus for me. The prompter device is simple. You simply loosen the mirror screws, set the right angle, retighten the screws and make sure the cover is secured to the back of the mirror assembly. The written instructions are a bit difficult to understand as I think some information got lost in the translation. For example, the instructions ask the user to "stickโ the fabric cover to the back with Velcro. I think they just wanted to say "attach". This surprised me when I first read this because I didn't expect to have to glue anything and then I saw the word "Velcro" and understood what was meant. The gear feels solid and heavy enough to balance with a full-size camera, but not too heavy to carry around from shot to shot. I would like to point out that you still need to download the teleprompter app for your mobile device as the text needs to be upside down to display correctly in the mirror glass. You also need to make sure you have a tripod strong enough to hold the setup. Also, it seems to be a good production gear.
