I think everything is getting cheaper these days. I remember tread depth sensors from a few years ago that were made out of much better materials. These depth gauges are accurate and easy to use and read. They just seem a little cheaper and thinner than before. As long as they do their job well, it probably doesn't matter how they feel in your hands.
