I was surprised at how noticeably the heel was lifted, almost like a 2-inch pump. I feel most comfortable in flat shoes. I usually wear New Balance hiking shoes, but I needed something light that I could easily wear around the house. My feet are very swollen so that's a problem for me. While the closure of these shoes made me swell, I felt like I was walking in heels. Also, the insole is uncomfortable. The kit includes extra sole inserts which would have made the insole more comfortable but once inserted I couldn't fit my feet in the shoe. There is some heel support which is good but overall not a great shoe for those who need support, relatively flat heel rise and room for a lot of swelling.
