Contaminated fuel is harmful to the electric fuel pump.
John Deere 2520. Haven't checked the fuel/water separator drain for ten years. As a result, the fuel pump blocked, which led to a breakdown. I removed the pump to check and noticed a white connector. Went online for a pump replacement. It was noted that 2520 was listed with a black connector style. Not for me. Luckily there was a reference to a white plug pump in the description section. Received, the tractor is back in action.
