Have been using this player for about 4 weeks. It's connected to a 40-inch Samsung UN40B7000 LED TV with a resolution of 1080p and 120 Hz, and it's connected directly to my router with a 100 Mbit/s Ethernet cable. Not a home theater setup so I won't comment on the sound quality. 1) OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD and DVD-Audio PlayStation 3 120GB. LG BD 390 Network Blu-ray Disc Player or Sony N-460? The Oppo player was my dream system but still too expensive. I then thought of PS3. However, the N-460 seems to perform just as well or slightly better, and I really didn't want to spend more than $100 for a device that offered gaming features that I wouldn't use. The N-460 is quiet and designed for movie playback and streaming. If you don't need gaming features, just choose the N-460. My second pick (on a $200 budget) was the LG BD390, but I was put off by a few consistent bad reviews about faulty devices. Sony isn't perfect either, but I went with a Sony device and haven't looked back. 2) Blu-ray playback quality and DVD upscaling I have watched several Blu-ray movies with this unit. Remember that the quality of the movie affects your overall experience and no Blu-ray player can make up for a poorly recorded/recoded/produced movie. Up (combination of 4 disc digital copy and DVD) [Blu-ray] shows amazing picture quality. There is a lot of image and color detail, so you can experience the true meaning of Blu-ray. The DVD version of this film also plays very well on this player, so I think the upconversion (remember that Samsung HDTVs can participate in this process too) is really well done. I spent several hours fine-tuning my HDTV. with Spears & Munsil High-Definition Benchmark Blu-ray Disc Edition [Blu-ray]. I can say with confidence that I've reached the point where all HDTV setup templates met the requirements. However, I did notice extreme flickering on the Jaggies-Clip edge-adaptive deinterlacing test chart (the $500 OPPO BDP-83 would pass such a test). I'm pretty sure it's the player's fault, which is why I'm deducting a full star from the rating. However, the demo that came with the benchmark disc still plays and looks great. 3) Remote control and TV integration The remote control is simple but does the job. I was amazed that I could use the Samsung backlit remote to control the Sony N-460, despite everyone complaining that the Sony remote was plain and not backlit. 4) Streaming I don't have a Netflix account. However, I have tested Crackle, Revain on Demand, Youtube and Slacker. They all work very well and the usability is fine. Sure, it's not as user-friendly as the Apple TV, but it's good enough to have a decent user experience. 5) Disc Loading This wasn't that important to me as this is my first Blu-ray player, but I'm happy to report that disc loading is as fast as most modern standard DVDs -players.
