Returned lettering frayed, looked used

I got these for my grandma for Mother's Day but when I received them and took them out of the box to make sure there were no holes, I was disappointed with the quality and sent it back to donate instead. The fabric is soft but will definitely knot after a few washes. In addition, the rubberized lettering on the bottom of a sock has come off. The bottom of the socks looked like someone had already worn them! Definitely not worth $14.99, around $5 at best.
