I think the light level is sufficient for a small pantry. When the door is first opened, the pantry photocell immediately picks up ambient light from the kitchen and prevents the light from being switched on before the motion sensor is triggered. I think that's so it doesn't turn on in daylight. I removed the photocell from the board, now it turns on when the door is opened and burns for about 15 seconds. If I need it longer, a simple wave of my hand gives me another 15 seconds. In general it works quite well.
