One side won't stay in place

I bought this item for my prom to support the backdrop. My husband and I checked it again at home and everything was fine. On the day of my event, the left side did not open. In the middle of the photos, one side has been completely lowered. This made my back crooked and you can see it in many of my photos. I do not recommend.
