I ordered this product in May and now it is January. It took my cat almost a month to get used to it. I no longer have to worry about stray animals (the day I ordered this product, I found stray animals in my living room). I have visited my family twice since this was installed and it gave me peace of mind that if my cat came out it could come back. Someone used to come to me to check on him once a day and he should stay at home since I wasn't at home to let him in and out, he didn't like to stay at home and one day he ran away . I changed the 9V battery twice. Not sure if it needed replacing or if my cat was lazy and wanted me to let him in so he just pawed at the door but I replaced him anyway. To train him, I opened the door so he could get used to jumping in and out, then I lowered the door so he had to push it away, but it wasn't fully closed. then closed all the way and my spoiled cat didn't want to use it. So I kicked him out, and when he wanted me to let him in and I didn't go to him, you don't know he used the cat door! :) I just had to put pressure on my foot and am much happier. just know that the magnet is strong. I have to scrape off nails, paperclips, scales of rust, nail clippers and once a can of tuna that I left juice in for him. Now all his delicacies are arranged in glass bowls.
