Pros and cons of this filter

This filter has some very good qualities, but there are some things that need to be changed. Pros - The atomizer is great, very long and sprays almost 3ft tank. Very powerful and excellent GPH speed. It's nice how easy it is to turn off the flow, slow the flow, and disconnect the hoses from the canister when doing maintenance. There is a small box with inlet/outlet hoses that just pop out with a lever. I haven't done any repairs yet, so I can't tell if it's easy or not. It's also very quiet, which is very important since it's next to my bed. Many large media bays thought they offered more than the two thin pads they had. It has a special opening at the top for filling the canister with water, so it can be assembled and then simply pour water from the hose. Appears to be self-priming. Looks very strong and well built. Cons - Initial installation with thick plastic tubing is terrible. Took literally 2 hours and honestly wanted to return it but needed a working filter. The hose is much larger than most filter hoses and not flexible at all, even after heating with a hair dryer. This made setup very difficult unless the hose was pulled out to get to where it was needed and attached to the I/O elements. Another terrible design, the inlet/outlet tubes don't snap or screw together for assembly. Simply pull the hose over the plastic parts and they can be pulled out, which can lead to disaster in operation. The plastic parts of the spray bar/outflow tray also do not snap and easily come loose even when touched. I plan to come up with something to permanently bond these parts together. Is an accident waiting? Once set up there's no need to take it apart and again, if you accidentally tug on the hose and it separates from the inlet/outlet clamps, it's a disaster. I would drain the tank to about 5cm. The canister is huge and heavy. I don't know how to drain it when maintenance needs to be done. There should have been a floor drain like the others. It is important to place all containers inside. so that it is done just right, otherwise you will not be able to close the canister. Most of it is, but this one is much more specific. All in all it looks like a well working filter so far, but a lot of the things I mentioned need to be attached for safety and not detach from the hoses/inlets/outlets.

Pros
  • UNIQUE FEATURES: In addition to being easy and intuitive to set up, the Cascade Max Flow canister filter is self-priming and features strong and reliable non-slip pads. The two independent 360Β° taps are fully rotatable, allowing the included large diameter tubes to deliver a constant and powerful flow of water. The flow rate can be adjusted with the top knob.
