This slipcover set is a bit big for my sofa/chaise longue, but the grass green color is so bright and inviting I don't mind. like velor. I washed and dried the covers before putting them on the sofa (wash medium warm, wash delicate and tumble dry low). They washed perfectly and the smell of new fabric completely disappeared. My Rat Terrier was frantically digging in the ground when he first jumped onto the new blanket. He survived without a hook or snag, protecting the fabric of the sofa. I think cats could probably scratch it, but I don't think they would find the experience as rewarding as scratching an uncoated sofa. As far as I know, mine hasn't tried it yet. Finally, I didn't use styrofoam tuck sticks because (a) the covers are big for my dissection and they stay tucked away without them, and (b) my rat terrier would definitely sniff them out and chew them to bits (PS: I always check the prices of all available colors before you decide on something, because sometimes some colors are cheaper than others).
