Review on Lippert Components 806621 Thin Shade Black Window Kit - Complete for RV Entry Doors by Justin Goff

Revainrating 1 out of 5

It matches the original LCI window opening perfectly - UPDATED

My original Lippert window was with frosted glass, the Lippert 806621 Thin Shade Window Kit contains tinted glass. I was planning on using my original frosted glass with the new Thin Shade window frame, but unfortunately Lippert scaled the glass down both in width and height. Oh well. My Thin Shade Window Kit came with instructions for another Lippert product. After searching the Lippert website I was able to find and download the correct guide. After downloading the correct instructions, installation was pretty easy. I used blue painters tape to hold the outside of the frame in place while I removed the inside of the frame and the glass. Then I removed the outer frame. Although it's not mentioned in the instructions, I used adhesive thinner on the outside of the door to remove all of the old gasket material, then washed off the remaining solvent, and finally wiped the gasket area with isopropyl alcohol to prepare it for the new gasket. Material. I installed the outer frame and taped it to the outside of the door with blue tape. To be safe, I also squeezed the pool noodles between the outside of the door and the side of the RV with the door open. This created extra support holding the outer frame in place. I installed the glass in place and snapped the inner frame into the outer frame. After a tight fit I used a rubber mallet as directed to pry the frame halves together. Tip 1: I suggest that you install the fluted lampshade into the inner frame BEFORE you start the installation. My forearms were very difficult to rotate and I couldn't rotate them with the frame. Tip 2: The frame halves are not marked for orientation. Don't forget to align the frame correctly. At the top of the frame is a large bar that covers and protects the fluted lampshade when in the up (open) position. Another comment is that the lampshade does not completely block or cover the glass. It still has gaps. Sides at a 45 degree angle to the side when looking in the window. I gave it 3 stars due to: lack of instructions, clunky forearms, lack of orientation markings and incomplete window covering. ************************************************** **** ********** 06/01/2020 - It's been 3 weeks and I'm reducing my rating from 3 stars to 1 star. After just a few uses, when you open the lampshade, the folds no longer stick together. Instead, they began to gather for a ball. We are very disappointed and recommend you look elsewhere for the shade. Lippert missed that point.
