Review on Dimok Workout Alternative Training Sandbags by Seth Gibbons

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It's portable at 80 pounds - perfect for travelers.

Covid took my gym away from me and I haven't come back. Instead, I do bodyweight exercises at home. But that's not all, and I need more tools to support my progress. I chose this rather than the actual weight as I typically travel a few months each year which breaks my normal routine when I don't have portable tools. I bought the £80 version and filled it up to £65. to allow for some weight progression. I used a floor scale to determine the weight. The filling process was painful with the recommended method. Water displaces air, so it must be regularly degassed during the filling process. Adding 65 pounds of water took 25 minutes with the blue tube. I assume there are better ways to do this, but the manufacturer-recommended method is definitely far from optimal. This makes it a manageable weight. All this "it's better if it's not stable to allow for core stabilizing muscles" sounds like science to me. I couldn't find any documentation to back this up, so I wouldn't get too carried away with it, despite what some education boards might say. Instead, treat it like a portable weight that admittedly needs some creative innovation to fill solutions if you plan on draining and refilling it regularly. Another reviewer mentioned using a hose, I'll probably buy a small piece of hose for that specific purpose. If you plan on leaving water in it for a while, add a few tablespoons of bleach when you fill it to sanitize the water. This will help a lot and reduce the chances of nasty things growing inside. As for the instability component, I honestly didn't find it too bad. You really shouldn't be swinging this, regardless of the effectiveness of the stabilizing muscles. Otherwise you will be seriously injured. I really didn't find anything harder to lift or use than regular weight, and sloshing wasn't a big deal for regular movements. It's a bit wide, a pocket, so it's harder to crouch with it since it doesn't sit on your shoulders, meaning your lats are holding this thing all the time. But hey, it's an extra workout ingredient! No leakage issues, the quarter turn valve cover holding everything together seems good and a lot more durable than I thought it would be. The handles are fine and the different angles cover everything you need. Overall, the build quality, reliability and lack of leaks are top notch. #wasitworthit Rating: 9/10 This is a great tool for me. This is the heaviest and largest piece of equipment I could find and is a great leg and glute workout for my on-the-go home workout system.

Pros

Cons
  • Will do
