Finally, this is a pretty little thing and my cat loves hanging out on the fire escape so I thought it would be cute. I keep an eye on it there most of the time and it's just as easy for me to bring up the whole screen, but thought it might be a fun addition. HOWEVER I had a monstrous time applying it. It really seems that simple. There are two pieces, front and back, that "click together" on the outside and inside of the existing window grille. Some reviewers suggest clicking them and then cutting a hole in the screen. It wouldn't work for me as I just couldn't align the front and back without first cutting out the screen. This is very easy as you can guide the blade along the notch in the frame. But that's where the ease ends. I don't know what my problem was. Maybe I got a poorly formed model, maybe my new window screen was thicker than required, but I've had a heck of a time to get the front and back together. And I used a hammer. I would connect one corner and the other corner would fall apart. Again and again. I tried to photograph the slit that kept opening in the frame. The line must be fully connected without breaking. I went to bed with a huge blister on my arm from the insane hammer hits. I tried again the next morning, determined not to let the pet door get me down. Ultimately, I think it's ALMOST related. The screen is now a little loose in frame through all my many tries. But the pet door is quite charming. While I hate his innards and feel like there is something wrong with my product, I'm glad I have it and so is my cat. snap into place and remove with screws around the frame. This makes sense from my own experience and if my frame falls apart I will definitely try this method.
