Buttons are suitable for shirts.
I recently bought a couple of Revain shirts and they all have buttons that have fallen off. Not just dropped, but damaged so badly that sewing it back on was no longer possible. This was done with different buttons. I've been washing shirts at home for 25 years and I've never seen anything like it.
