Review on ๐ŸŽค Neumann TLM 103 Condenser Microphone: Professional Studio-Grade Audio Recording Tool by Guan Yin แ Œ

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality is top notch, happy with everything.

In skillful hands with a normal sound path and in a prepared room with this microphone, you can achieve very decent results. Many online scold him and call him overrated, but until you try it yourself in your own conditions, you wonโ€™t understand whether you need it or not. In the price segment up to 100 any microphone will be with a compromise, there is no ideal solution for this money for everything in the world. For me, this microphone turned out to be a much better choice than the previous ones (Rode K2, Warm 87, Octave 105, AKG214) It became much more pleasant to work with source codes, the result is achieved faster, in new music such a bright and low-pitched vocal sound is very much appreciated, if you are going to write academic vocals into it - itโ€™s not worth it, itโ€™s better to look towards more mediocre u87 or tlm49. I work a lot with foreign performers, most often they send source codes recorded exactly on 103, this is a sound familiar and beloved by many. My setup - UAD Apollo - Long Stereo Channel - Klotz switching - monitoring NMonitorsN100 , Sennheiser HD650

Pros
  • Great for male vocals, sounds cool in modern arrangements, requires a minimum of processing, improves the sound of weak uncertain voices, is quite versatile in terms of vocal recording, especially in conjunction with a good preamp and card. An ideal option for voice acting, all the speakers who record in it are very pleased with the result, many are delighted with the purity of the sound and character, it seems to slightly compress the signal and add sand to it from above and fat to the bottom, the sound is immediately very close to the finished one
Cons
  • Some voices may require a little more D-Esser treatment, for people with a problematic C-S-S sound, this will be exaggerated even more.
