We bought this pump to replace a similar pump (no longer sold) because we needed something that shuts off automatically. We don't have a sump, we don't have a sump pit, but we do have a 2 inch hole in the basement where a shallow pump can run. Getting 2 stars instead of 1. But, and I can't stress this enough, this pump runs every few minutes until it probably finds water or burns out. "Submersible pump with electronic control; automatically turns on when there is water and turns off at 3/16", suggesting but not indicating it will turn off and wait for the water level to rise. This pump works differently. This pump will Haunting your sleep, demanding water (or attention) every few minutes until you run home in terror This is how machines win.
