Review on Derwent Manual Helical Sharpener 2302001 by Kristen Reid

Excellent points but not for everyone Pencils

This sharpener creates long beautiful points on many types of pencils. However, the sharpener is temperamental about the kinds of pencils he likes and destroys those he doesn't like. As a general rule, don't put anything softer than 4B (or equivalent hardness for the type of pencil you're sharpening) in this sharpener, all it does is eat into your point. It sharpens Prismacolors and other high-quality crayons very well, as other reviewers have noted, but very soft-tipped crayons like Conte and pastels should stay away from this thing. mixed charcoal; It performed excellently with the harder Derwent charcoals and even with some very cheap Royal & Langnickel charcoals I had years ago. However, when I tried to sharpen a General (the brand I prefer) charcoal softer than HB, the tip broke about 75% of the time. This is a pretty good sharpener for most pencils and a great sharpener for others. However, for such an expensive item from an art supply manufacturer, I expected better performance with a wider range of lead types. I guess I can't throw away my pocket knife and sandpaper pointer for these super soft pens just yet. The charcoal pencil (the brand I prefer) is softer than HB, the tip broke about 75% of the time.
