Review on Authentic African Mopani 🌳 Wood for Zoos and Large Enclosures by April Boyce

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I love the look of mopani in my aquarium

Bought 2 large mopani and a medium. The large ones were very good and I got really lucky with some nicely shaped aquarium decorations as well as a large size (I paid less than 20 grand for the large ones, medium to 10). but still a decent size for a medium. I grow African Abonias plants in small holes in the wood. They all look great in my aquarium. Mopani contains tannins that can discolour aquarium water. Give it a yellow or tea color. I highly recommend boiling your cut in water for about an hour to remove those tannins. Or, if the piece is too big, soak it in warm water for a week or two, changing the water regularly every 2 or 3 days. Do not use detergents or chemicals to clean your Mopani. It is the densest wood in the world and does not rot like other driftwood. They are very heavy and most will sink as soon as they hit the water. Good luck ordering although you will not get what is pictured but what they take off the shelf that day. But in my experience I've gotten very good items and after some research I was pretty happy with the price. There are some very unique and beautiful items on the bay and you see what you get. But you also pay 2-3 times more.
