So far I am satisfied with the collars, especially at an acceptable price. We have used ecocollars in the past at a previous lab and they did a great job with the collar and it was very easy to use. With the Kool Kani system it has so far been easy to install an external boundary wire and get it working and my puppies (11 months and 4 months) are just starting to train themselves on a leash. The older one pulls it off and immediately recognizes the sound, while the younger one still has a long way to go, but that's to be expected. In fact, she's still a bit young. Being able to control how the system uses the tone/vibration range with one setting and "electronic stimulation"/shock with another is fantastic. Although I've tested both and you can set different ranges, I'm really happy to be able to only use tone/vibration and turn off the beat range. With a younger pup I'd like to start training both but I don't want to confuse or overstimulate them so being able to turn it off during training is great. I just have a few minor annoyances to get used to with the new system, all related to how the remote works. Firstly, it is very cumbersome to control the selection of the type of vibration, sound or shock signal by separately selecting which dog you want to stimulate and then pressing the transmit button. A few times I hummed the wrong puppy or used a tone when I needed a vibration. Something simpler like picking a dog then press the sound/vibration/shock button and it will transmit instantly, it would be better. It would also be very helpful if it were possible to infect both dogs at the same time. Right now you have to choose one and send it, wait for the end, switch dogs and send that signal. If both run at the same time, chaos reigns and only one can be stimulated at a time to bring them back. It would be nice if the third slot on the remote could be set to hit both collars at the same time with their individual settings. The second complication is that the intensity levels are a combination of duration and intensity. I would prefer if only the intensity and duration of the stimulation depended on how long I press the button. This is how my previous system worked. A quick touch would produce a rapid tone or buzz, and the pups would often refocus. A longer press will stimulate until you get rid of the distractions and continue executing commands. This device only has the ability to choose the length of time based on the choice of intensity, and toggling the intensity "in the field" is next to impossible given how long it takes to progress through dozens of levels come, especially since you need to be sure you are on the right dog, you need to switch and don't forget to reset it. Finally, and in relation to the above, as long as it transmits to a dog, the remote control is completely consumed and you cannot change the dog, the type of stimulation, or change the intensity. As a result, the delay between sending commands is between one and two seconds. Anyone who has puppies, especially Labrador puppies, knows that a few seconds is an eternity of trouble opportunities. A small annoying factor that I have found standard with all eco collars is the collar itself, which is difficult to put on and take off. A quick release collar would be nice but I'm sure it would add to the cost. This is not a defect of this collar, but a common problem that makes collars more difficult to put on properly every time. I will update the information in the future when I know more. For now I'm happy with the value and convenience of a two dog system so I'll give it time to see if I can adapt and overcome the above limitations.
