Let me start by saying that we live on a farm. We have many animals. We recently weaned my daughter's pony and as she is in a separate paddock she decided to buy one to give her some hay as she was wasting her pony playing with it and letting it fall on the ground throw. This hay trough sat in the paddock for about a week and one day we went out and the pony wrapped both legs with this masonry on the ground. She was fine the day before. So I give it 10/10 for durability. Worst case scenario, if she broke off the panel, she would have suffered a severe rope burn. But we had to cut it off a frightened animal, and that was very dangerous. After it was cut off, she could not stand for some time, and when she could, she was completely shaky. She tore blood vessels in her eyes and brushed a strand of hair back from her face as she thrashed. It was terrible. Worst of all, my daughter felt guilty for finding this feeder and buying it with her own money. Luckily the pony is fine. But we threw that thing in the trash can. I would definitely let her throw away as much hay as she wants before scattering it back to one of our animals.
