Review on πŸͺ’ Zertone High-End Horn Scale Straight Razor - 440C Stainless Steel Blade, Cutthroat Edge for Barbers by Patricia Rubio

Real value - not for beginners

I was very pleased with the value of this shaver. As stated in the manufacturer's description, the razor has been professionally sharpened. My guess is that it was sharpened to 8000 which means it took 100 passes on a polish filled buffing belt to prime it for a shave and 50-75 passes on a clean leather belt to prime it for a shave. It took about 1 hour to complete these finishing works. I've been shaving with it for about a week now, and according to the firmness it claims, it holds the blade well, with just a few pulls over the leather straps at the beginning to keep the blade running smoothly without feeling any tension. The wooden sheds appear to be made of stained bamboo and have only been oiled well to make them smooth and shiny. Overall, the shaver has a good weight and balance and feels really good in the hand. Everything fits and works as it should with virtually no risk of damaging the blade, fingers or clubface. About pictures. The first two show the razor as received, with a foam-lined metal case and polishing cloth (feels nice). I would have provided a notch for a finger to pull the razor out of a tight pocket. I later added one with no problem, but the company could have added from the start with little or no extra tooling cost when cutting out the steel ruler. The third picture shows a close-up of the blade after the final dressing as described above. I've circled the manual sharpening error, which in this case affects no more than 1/2 percent of the edge in a non-essential area of the blade. I saw it right out of the box, which meant it could be distinguished from the hand honing marks used to form the cutting edge, but I couldn't tell how deep the defect was until I stopped. This error can take a year or more to fix, but as I mentioned earlier, the error is in a fairly benign area of the cutting edge. If I were to spend $200 on a razor I would be a shopper royalty, but since I was only spending $20 I would get this deal any day of the week. have the skills or equipment/supplies to bring the blade from its original condition to a truly sharp condition for a comfortable shave.
