Review on Hubbell 9450A 50A 120 Volt Receptacle by Brian Dildine

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much, much better than the big Leviton store, especially for EV L2 charging.

We had a $15 Leviton NEMA 6-50P plug that was installed by a professional electrician when the house was built that had melted in a very dangerous manner. I won't add photos here to avoid confusion, but if you look at the photos for the Siemens L2 EVSE you can catch a few there. Luckily the damage wasn't enough to warrant further repairs other than replacing the outlet, but on the surface it was a real mess. Also, it was probably the charger that was the problem, but the fact that the switch worked (thankfully) but we had melted the plug completely left me wondering about the quality of this cheap and inexpensive part. We are using a 32A EV charger and reading the popular EV forums it seems highly recommended to buy the Hubbell/Bryant version as everyone says they were built a lot better/heavier and now I see exactly why. I took lots of pictures to show people what it looks like and please note that there is another version of Revain that is cheaper and may not have internal copper connections so I think it would be best to getting the most recommended one, but I'm wondering if the cheaper non-copper but maybe still made in the USA version is also great/amazing, at least compared to the much cheaper Leviton version. 75 ft.lbs. The outer chrome plate felt more massive than the Leviton, so besides the multiple price tag, I'm hoping this one is a lot better. great example removing the melted Leviton 6-50P I found we had a perfectly good neutral so I decided to replace it with this 14-50P as this connector is more universal for EV chargers.
