First of all, I don't think the perfect smartphone bike mount has been developed yet. I've tried several and none of them are perfect. This is the best of the 3 or 4 I've tried. I have a large phone (Galaxy S5 with Otterbox case). This holder's wings open wide enough for my phone. It also has a locking mechanism that locks the wings in place and then pushes to release. Other wing supports are sometimes spring loaded but don't lock and I didn't like them at all. However, I would say that you must use an elastic strap to fully protect your phone. Smartphones are too heavy for this light plastic, therefore you need additional protection in the form of a strap. The only complaint about the elastic cord design. It should be regulated, but it isn't. It stretches and you pull the loop over the phone and attach the loop to the hook on the other side, leaving two pieces of cable going through your phone (the top and bottom of the loop). This cord fits my thick phone, but barely, and I really had to stretch it to reach the hook. It was very difficult to attach and I was afraid that the elastic cord would not withstand such a strong pull. I solved this problem by attaching a 1 inch mini loop of strong rope or twine (I used a small parachute line available from Michael's Crafts) to the main loop, essentially two strands of cord. I then attach this loop to the hook instead of attaching the elastic cord to the hook. I know people don't like to modify the products they buy, but it actually works great. You can customize it to fit your phone exactly. I just wish the manufacturer would allow some design changes here.
