Easy to use but be careful if you have trees

We bought this for our 3 year old labrador who loves squirrel hunting and running across the road. We live in a 50 hectare village and of course he has to chase the critters across the street instead of following. This collar was very easy to set up and he learned to keep his limits in about five minutes. We set it to the maximum limit with our midpoint adjusted to keep it off the road. We set it to the lowest vibration and tremor and it will hear the first few beeps and speed back into the 'safe zone'. We can turn off the collar and it still respects the boundary (I learned that after the collar died). Battery life could be better. It takes about two days. It's a bit annoying to take it outside first thing in the morning and have it recalibrated with satellites, but I get it. Also we have a large number of trees on the outer edge of our garden and this resulted in him being accidentally hit within the boundary which was a bit traumatic for all of us as he has no idea what he did wrong to get one induce shock. After this happened twice, he was afraid to leave the deck. Well, it accidentally electrocuted him on deck while he was lying there, probably because it was a very overcast day. I'm not sure. So use it with caution if you have trees, live in the lowlands, or if it's very cloudy.

Pros
  • Durable test results
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
