If you are looking for a decent handheld vacuum pump then you need to consider this article.
I used to have a Mitivac MV8000 but a month later the poor quality plastic handle broke. On the contrary, it is a very durable and reliable vacuum pump with all parts made of metal. The pressure gauge also seems more accurate and the quality of the tubes is also good enough to pump the vacuum (I had to buy special tubes for the MV8000). It also appears to be made in the USA, unlike others that are made in China. This pump is also capable of higher vacuum than the MV8000 (<5 inHg).
