The only type that works with R410

Despite the high cost, this is the only type of leak detector that works with fluorocarbon refrigerants such as R410. The heated diode and other detectors will NOT detect R410 despite what the Revain ad says. However, the dye is even more sensitive.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Null

Good luck if you have a warranty issue

It detects most freon leaks and seems to work pretty well. I bought 4 of these for my shop and one stopped working. I was ordered to ship back to another country which costs around $150. Still waiting, buy at risk, the guarantee is a bad joke.

Pros
  • Easy Setup
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

Great leak detector

Bought to see if the mini split system has a leak. The detector worked great but I found it REALLY sensitive. I ran the AC for a few days and then checked again and found no leaks. Battery life is a definite plus. I would recommend and buy again.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • I will add later

I will buy more of these.

Using a leak detector for R22 and 410a. So far this is one of the best I've bought. You'll have to lower the sensitivity once you find the area you want, but that's easy. This has reduced our time on the site and will easily pay off. Our engineers are more confident in selling a replacement component after verifying actual unrecoverable finned coil leaks.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Damaged

Didn't live up to expectations. Slightly better than a $20 detector

Works better than a $20 detector and fails almost everything it touches. But still too many false positives. It sounds like a small leak has been found, but you cannot confirm this with another test or detector, or after resetting and restarting this device. Agree with another reviewer on not recognizing in light winds. I will try another model/type.

Pros
  • Best in class
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Very good so far, best in AC tools and gear

Can't give 5 stars until it's been used more, but so far I like it. I deal with the home climate. My 25 year old TIF bit the bullet recently - I definitely like this one more: 1) visual indication and more discreet audio (TIF sounded like a Geiger counter and could warn customers, 2) I like the principle of sample pumping compared to a passive one Detector - responds better to leak testing, 3) probe tip is well designed for spot checking, 4) easy to use, 5) good probe length.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Expensive

1 of the best things I bought this year

I've been in the automotive industry for over 30 years, I've never seen these things work very well. Until this thing came along. The only reason I bought it was because our store didn't have a leak detector at all, so you must have some. So I was really expecting a lot, but I was surprised when he found the first rusty battery and I've been making money from it ever since. If you run AC this is a must - I've never seen a sniffer work so well, I've used it on the 134A so far but it says it will

Pros
  • Everything is great!
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Excellent performance, but there are downsides.

The ILD300 offers good value for money compared to other infrared leak detectors. I got it for situations where my heater diode leak detectors gave too many false alarms. Pros: The color screen is a nice touch that you usually only see on top-end devices. I also like the switchable refrigerant modes so you can tune it to the gas you're trying to detect. Lithium-ion batteries are charged with any Android phone charger. The screen will display a warm up countdown, which is a nice feature. Any…

Great leak detector

I have been trying to find a leak in my 3/4 ton Dodge pickup for years. I've been to several air conditioning shops that have much more expensive leak detectors than me and none of them have been able to find a leak. He uses R134a and he found the leak in minutes. It turned out that this is a microcrack in the compressor, which stopped flowing when the compressor warmed up. Was excited to find a leak, not so much about having to replace the compressor. Then I discovered a tiny leak in my…
