Handy, sometimes in A/C tools and equipment

While I'm sure this product works with some leaks, I've seen this product not work on PZEV vehicles 3 times in a row. Just not enough smoke. I'm a Subaru technician and have used this on 3 cars so far that had obvious head gasket symptoms (and were fixed by replacing the gasket) but the fluid stayed blue during testing. I gave it 3 stars because it works on older home cars and other cars that aren't as eco-friendly as new cars, but the formula needs to be changed to detect PZEV head gasketโ€ฆ

Like any vehicle - air conditioning line repair tools

like any vehicle when you have a lot of cars to work on and sometimes tools are lying around, things get lost or break. I had an accident where my tester got stuck when another technician reversed the car causing unnecessary expense but it happens. I bought this and it works great. I couldn't wait for the Snap On guy to come over so I bought this witch which was a lot cheaper and does the same job. The only thing I had to do was to caulk the rubber portion of the lower fluid chamber with anโ€ฆ

Not cheap, but worth its weight in gold.

Product works great. Very easy to use. Comes in a nice carry case and honestly the best part is it gave me peace of mind and confidence knowing that in just a few minutes I would not have had a head gasket issue and not have to rip the engine. I tested it by drawing in my own breath and indeed the liquid turned the color as expected. I used it on a 6.2 diesel that had brown foam in the coolant. Turns out it was just nasty coolant and not oil as I initially feared! It's not cheap considering how

Really runs as advertised on diesel

I needed to know what was wrong with my Jeep Liberty CRD as I had a water leak and it showed up in my exhaust. Normally I would have to say I have a head gasket problem, but I haven't had any other symptoms of a blown head gasket, none. So this test suite came up and I tried it, I'm very glad I did. There was no exhaust in my cooling system, which allowed me to find the real culprit, an EGR cooler leak. A simple solution that has saved me thousands of diagnostic errors. Since my car was aโ€ฆ

Looks good but didn't deliver

Well designed tester, unfortunately he couldn't deliver. the air in the cupped hand changed the color of the liquid from blue to green, as it should. When inflating a manual balloon on the 2nd or 3rd compression it creates a vacuum that it can't break unless I lift it slightly to let air in. Maybe this will affect my results, but if I don't do it this way, the lamp can't draw air. After this error I drained all the coolant and ran the coolant cleaner with water. With the radiator cap off and no

NorthStar owners beware

I have a high mileage Cadillac with a Northstar V8 engine so blown head gaskets are a constant concern. In less than half an hour in your own driveway you can get your test results. There is enough test fluid for multiple tests as long as your coolant is free of exhaust residue and you can save the fluid for future use. I keep used but usable e-liquid separate from the original bottle in a small Tupperware style container. Have a special turkey buster and a clean gallon container on hand toโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Discarded

Smart and relatively efficient. I was only able to create a very slight vacuum in the air space inside the cooler before I had to break the seal and let some more air into the cooler, but to do this I pumped air through 26 times and the liquid remained blue. I don't know how well this can work for thermally induced intermittent leaks, but I'm sure they exist. Once the test was negative, for general purposes only, bring the device NEAR BUT NOT INSIDE THE EXHAUST PIPE AND TOUCH THE EXHAUST PIPEโ€ฆ

Great diagnostics that you can't buy in an auto parts store.

I have only good things to say about this tester. I was working on a complex engine to determine if it had a head gasket or if it was some other problem and after checking the compression, checking for leaks and running the engine with and without the thermostat we were unable to find any step closer. what's going on with the engine. I heard about a similar tester from a mechanic friend of mine. I went to every local auto parts store and the only one that had one was my local NAPA store. Theโ€ฆ

I LOVE THIS TESTER! It's almost worth using it just as a science experiment. The tool is so easy to use that you only need basic instructions. According to the instructions, you can disassemble it into 3 parts (upper suction part, middle tube and down tube). Then fill each of the tubes with liquid to a clearly visible fill line. You put it back together and then either use it with your radiator (follow instructions) with the cap removed, or in my case I used an overflow for my coolant as myโ€ฆ
