Why not use plastic on the bottom instead of cardboard

Love these little tents for my big guinea pigs - they love them too. So I have a question for the manufacturer in general, although I can't figure out how to send it to the manufacturer: They use cardboard at the bottom of a triangular product and it falls apart after two washes, so the question is: why can't it be used as a thin plastic? "This means they last a little longer and don't break on the gentle cycle of a front-loading washing machine.
