UPDATED yet again: Ear pads are falling apart

UPDATE #2: A little less than a year after purchasing the ear pads, one side of the ear pads is torn and falling apart. I was able to order new pads from Microsoft which I am now waiting for. The padding of the headband is held in place by a thread. I got used to the quirks and accepted these headphones for use while working remotely due to the presence of a mute button, so I've added an asterisk. I still use my Sony headphones for personal use because of the sound quality and comfort. UPDATE #1: Now I really can't stand these headphones. The only benefit right now is the microphone mute button. After some time of use there are a few things that really need tweaking. First, add a setting to turn off the sensor that detects if you're wearing headphones. If I pause the music and then decide to take the headphones off for a short time, the headphones either start playing music or go into a state where it's difficult to turn the music back on. The noise reduction wheel is a dumb control. Why force me to turn the steering wheel when I suddenly want to hear the surrounding sounds? I turn all the way back and wait for a beep to indicate that Ambient Mode is audible briefly, then turn forward again until I push the noise-cancellation setting to the maximum. There should be a button you can hold or a quick gesture to turn on Ambient Mode. The wheels feel great and are perfect for adjusting the volume, but everything else is better operated with one knob in my opinion. The touch control for play/pause is too sensitive. When I reach for something on the shelf above my desk and my shoulder comes close to the headphones, the music stops. Even the slightest touch on my shirt causes it. Integration with Google Assistant is very slow. I have to wait a few seconds while touching the headset and wait for a beep indicating my phone is ready to listen to my command. All other headphones I've used respond almost immediately. I've now replaced them with Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones, which work great except for the lack of a mute button. Please spend your extra cash on something else, starting with Microsoft Surface Headphones. 2 just don't cut it at any cost. ORIGINAL: I've only had them for a little over 3 months and the padding on top of the headphones is already starting to separate from the headband. I wear them for more than eight hours a day while I work, but I have much older headphones that have gone through the same usage patterns and are still fine. I bought the Microsoft headphones specifically for the mute button that every headphone should have. Other than that, these are decent headphones. They sound good, are very comfortable for extended use, and switching between a phone and multiple computers usually works well, barring the occasional connection lag. Sometimes they also stop my music without touching it. I wouldn't buy another pair and will try a home made fill solution until they get fixed and then look for an alternative.
