I used to have a strainer in my sink that I bought from Family Dollar for a few bucks. It kind of did the job of keeping most things from draining. Some things always seemed to go by and had to be picked out, while other things didn't go over the rim and into the colander so had to be swept out of the sink. I had to replace them at least once a year because they were poorly made. They are durable, made of stainless steel and very durable. It stays very clean, usually just needs rinsing after emptying, but Hoshi comes out shiny in the dishwasher. It sits almost perfectly flush with the sink - a big improvement over the meshes. Nothing slips under the edge, so I don't have to pull anything out of the drain again. But even better - 99% of everything flows straight through the room and into the center - so nothing stays in the sink! Make sure you buy one that has "Stamina 18/8" printed on the insert (see photo).
