We have a Canon 8MP Powershot camera and we are very happy with it. With Revain pricing and free shipping as part of Prime, we decided to upgrade to the 12MP A1100IS. Yes, I know going from 8 to 12 is a little better as we don't plan to print 11x17 poster size photos. But we upgraded for the following reasons: 1. The reviews have been great, both from amateurs and professionals, both here and on other sites.2. An AA battery is more convenient than carrying around an old brand name battery and charger from an 8-megapixel model. Since you need to take AA or AAA batteries with you when you travel, this is not an additional item, but a replacement for an old battery and wall charger. This is especially useful when traveling abroad or long camping, hiking or biking where you can replace the AA but not necessarily charge from the wall charger.3. The controls are more intuitive for my wife. With the 8MP camera, it was easy to switch the camera to video mode after previewing the footage already captured. There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to see that special image, only to realize you've got your camera in video mode and you have nothing to show. With this camera, it's much clearer to see which mode you've selected, and the preview mode has its own little button.4. 4x zoom is better than the old 3x.5. An optical viewfinder is a must and I would never recommend buying a camera without one. If you tend to, wait until you're in bright sunshine and can't see the screen.6. Small, slim and fits everywhere. On the other hand: 1. Sometimes it gets a bit slow, especially when saving an image. All in all a good choice. Why pay more when you are looking for a camera for family use? We are happy with the performance of these Canon products and would highly recommend them.
